Details

How it works

01

Six sizes, one file

Each size is rendered from the vector, so the 16 px version is a real downscale, not a blurry crop of a large image.

02

Square first

Favicons are square. Use Fit to 1:1 in the Canvas panel; the artwork is centred with transparent padding.

03

Keep it simple

Thin lines and small text vanish at 16 px. Hide fine details, thicken strokes or use the mark only before exporting.

Limits

What this tool cannot do

  • The ICO stores PNG images; very old browsers that need BMP entries are not supported.
  • Transparency is preserved; JPG-style backgrounds are baked in if you choose one.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What sizes should a favicon.ico contain?

16 and 32 px for browser tabs, 48 for Windows shortcuts, 64 to 256 for high-density displays and pinned sites. This tool writes all six.

Should I use ICO or SVG for a favicon?

Modern browsers accept SVG favicons, but Safari and many older clients still want ICO. Ship both: the SVG for sharpness and the ICO as the fallback.

My icon looks muddy at 16 px. What can I do?

Simplify: hide small parts, remove thin outlines, and increase contrast. Export again; each size is rendered fresh from the vector.
