Free browser tool

Clean up an SVG file without touching the artwork.

Drop a vector file exported from Illustrator, Inkscape, Figma or an AI tool. CleanVector removes editor leftovers, metadata, scripts and a white canvas, then shows you the smaller file next to the original.

Runs in your browser. The file is never uploaded.

What gets cleaned

01

Editor leftovers

Inkscape and Illustrator attributes, Sketch and Figma namespaces, metadata blocks, comments and empty groups that add size but no pixels.

02

Risky content

Scripts, event handlers, foreignObject blocks and links to remote files. The cleaned SVG is safe to embed in a page or email.

03

White canvas

A near-white shape that covers the whole canvas is removed. Smaller white shapes such as eyes, letters and highlights stay.

Limits

What this tool cannot do

  • Paths are not simplified or merged, so a file with thousands of nodes stays that way. Use the quality checker to judge the geometry.
  • Only a full-canvas near-white background is removed. Colored or partial backgrounds need manual editing.
  • Text stays as text. If the font is missing on another machine it can render differently.
  • Filters, masks and clipping paths are kept as they are.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is this an SVG optimizer like SVGO?

It covers the safe part of what SVGO does: metadata, editor data, comments, whitespace and empty groups. It does not rewrite path data, so the drawing cannot change.

Why is the file smaller after cleaning?

Design tools store undo history, guides, layer names and namespaces inside the SVG. None of that is needed to display the file.

Does cleaning use credits?

No. Cleaning runs in your browser. Signing in keeps your downloads together, but it does not spend credits.

Can I clean an SVG that came from an AI image?

Yes, but if the file is a raster wrapped in an SVG, cleaning will not make it a vector. Use the AI image vectorizer to rebuild it as real paths first.
