Crop an SVG by moving the frame, not cutting paths.

Cropping an SVG means changing its viewBox, the window onto the drawing. Crop to content with one click, add margin, fit a preset ratio, or type the exact X, Y, width and height.

Details

How cropping works

01

Crop to content

Measures every visible shape and tightens the canvas around them with a 4% margin. Hidden parts are ignored, so hide what you do not want first.

02

Margins and ratios

Add or remove 6% margin per click, or expand the canvas to a square, 4:5, 3:2 or 16:9 around the centre for social and print placements.

03

Exact viewBox

Type X, Y, width and height and press Apply. Anything outside the frame is kept in the file but not shown, so you can always crop back out.

Limits

What this tool cannot do

  • Cropping changes what is visible, not the geometry; to delete shapes, select them and press Delete.
  • Percent-based widths and heights on the root are replaced by the viewBox size.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do I crop an SVG without Illustrator?

Drop the file here and press Crop to content, or type a viewBox in the Canvas panel. The paths are not cut; the visible frame changes, which is how SVG cropping works.

Why is there empty space around my SVG?

The viewBox is larger than the drawing, usually because it was exported from an artboard. Crop to content removes that space.

Can I crop to a square for a profile picture?

Yes. Choose 1:1 under Fit to; the canvas grows around the centre so nothing is cut off. Then export PNG at the size you need.
