Canva's SVG download is a paid feature, and even on Canva Pro it only vectorizes elements Canva itself drew: an uploaded photo or an image made with Canva's AI generator is embedded as pixels. If you need a logo or graphic from Canva as a true vector, export a PNG at the largest size with a transparent or plain background, then vectorize it with CleanVector and download SVG.
The steps below cover both the Free-plan case and the AI-image case, plus what to watch for with text, which Canva renders from fonts you may not be licensed to convert.
THE SHORT VERSION
Canva to SVG in four steps
Export size matters. A 2000 px PNG traces to cleaner curves than a 500 px one, and Canva lets you scale the PNG export on any plan.
- 1
Export a large PNG
Share, Download, file type PNG. Raise the size slider to the maximum. On Pro, tick Transparent background; on Free, use a plain white background.
- 2
Upload it above
CleanVector removes the white canvas and traces the visible shapes.
- 3
Pick Quick or Enhance
Quick for flat Canva graphics with sharp edges. Enhance for Canva AI images or anything with soft edges.
- 4
Compare and export
Check colors and edges next to the source, then download SVG or a transparent PNG at any size.
Text in Canva designs: what survives
Canva renders text with fonts under Canva's license. When you vectorize the PNG, the letters become shapes, which is fine for a logo lockup you designed, but the shapes are only as clean as the export resolution. For exact, editable lettering, remove the text in Canva before exporting, vectorize the graphic, and add the text again in your vector editor with a font you own.
If the design is a logo with a brand name, CleanVector's logo generator does this split automatically: the symbol comes from the image, the name is set in real vector type.
| What you have in Canva | Best route to SVG |
|---|---|
| Design built from Canva elements, Pro plan | Use Canva's own SVG download; elements stay editable |
| Design built from Canva elements, Free plan | Export PNG at maximum size, vectorize here |
| Canva AI image (Magic Media) on any plan | Export PNG, vectorize with Enhance; Canva's SVG export embeds it as pixels |
| Logo with a brand name | Export the symbol without text, vectorize, add type in a vector editor or use the logo generator |
Check the SVG before you use it
Open the downloaded file in a browser and zoom in. Edges should stay sharp and each color should be a separate shape you can select in Figma, Illustrator or Inkscape. If Canva exported a JPG instead of PNG, the white background has compression noise around the edges; export PNG and try again.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Can Canva Free download SVG files?
No. SVG download is a Canva Pro feature. On the Free plan, export a PNG at the largest size and vectorize it to get an SVG.
Does Canva Pro's SVG export vectorize AI images?
No. Images from Canva's AI generator and uploaded photos are embedded as pixels inside the SVG. Vectorize the PNG separately to get real paths.
What export size should I use?
The maximum the size slider allows, ideally 2000 px or more on the longer side. Larger sources give cleaner curves.
Will my Canva text stay editable?
Vectorized text becomes shapes, not editable type. For editable lettering, add the text in your vector editor after vectorizing the graphic.
How much does it cost?
New accounts get 8 free credits with no card. A direct conversion costs 1 credit and Enhance costs 4; every result downloads as SVG.
