MIDJOURNEY RENDERS TO EDITABLE VECTOR

How to convert a Midjourney image to SVG

Midjourney is built for painterly detail, which is the opposite of what a tracer wants. Prompt it differently and the conversion becomes easy.

Midjourney outputs PNG files, and its default look is rich: gradients, lighting, texture, film grain. A vectorizer turns each of those into paths, so a default render becomes a heavy, hard-to-edit SVG. The fix is on the prompt side: ask for a flat vector style, then trace the upscaled PNG with CleanVector's Enhance mode and export a transparent SVG.

This guide shows the prompt pattern, the Midjourney settings that matter, and what to check in the traced file.

THE SHORT VERSION

Midjourney to SVG in five steps

Upscale before you download. The larger source gives the tracer cleaner edges to follow, and CleanVector accepts images up to the size Midjourney produces.

  1. 1

    Prompt for a vector look

Add "flat vector illustration, bold outlines, limited palette, no gradients, no texture, white background" and use --style raw so the model stops adding lighting.

  2. 2

    Pick and upscale

Choose the cleanest variation and upscale it. Subtle upscaling preserves edges better than creative upscaling.

  3. 3

    Download the PNG

Save the original file from the Midjourney web app; do not screenshot.

  4. 4

    Upload and choose Enhance

Enhance re-renders soft edges and evens out residual gradients before tracing.

  5. 5

    Compare and export

Inspect the SVG beside the source, fix colors, and export SVG or a transparent PNG.

The Midjourney prompt pattern that traces well

Midjourney follows style words closely. The words below push it toward shapes and away from rendering: "flat vector illustration", "sticker design", "die-cut sticker", "logo mark", "icon", "minimal", "bold outlines", "limited color palette", "no gradients", "no shading", "white background".

Use the --no parameter for what you want to avoid: --no gradient, shading, texture, noise, background scene, text. Set --style raw to reduce Midjourney's default beautification, and keep --stylize low.

Prompt elementWhy it matters for SVG
flat vector illustration, sticker designSteers the model toward flat fills and clear outlines
limited palette, five colorsFewer color regions, fewer paths, easier recoloring
--no gradient, shading, texture, noisePrevents the tracer from splitting one shape into dozens
--style raw, low --stylizeReduces lighting effects and painterly detail
white background, centered, full bodyA canvas the vectorizer can remove cleanly, with nothing cropped

What to check in the traced SVG

A good conversion of a Midjourney render has a few hundred paths, not thousands. Each color region is selectable, the background is transparent, and outlines are closed. If the path count is in the thousands, the source still had gradients or texture: regenerate with stricter prompt constraints rather than fighting the trace.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can Midjourney export SVG or vector files?

No. Midjourney produces PNG images. Vector output requires a separate vectorization step, which is what this page does.

Which Midjourney settings give the best vector results?

A prompt that names a flat vector or sticker style, a limited palette, --no gradient shading texture, --style raw and a low --stylize value, followed by a subtle upscale.

Why does my traced Midjourney image have thousands of paths?

The source still contained gradients, lighting or texture. Regenerate with the constraints above; a flat source traces to a few hundred clean paths.

Does CleanVector remove the background from Midjourney images?

Yes. A plain white or single-color canvas is detected and removed, so the SVG and PNG exports are transparent.

Is there a free tier?

New accounts get 8 free credits with no card. Enhance costs 4 credits per image, a direct conversion 1.
